At the intersection of Anping’s narrow streets, CU Dessert stands with a restrained yet welcoming presence. The exterior’s balanced geometry and warm terracotta beltline soften the sharpness of the triangular lot, transforming it into a corner with the intimacy of a European village street.
The design philosophy begins with one belief: Refinement doesn’t need to be loud. The delicacy of handmade desserts is translated into the architecture itself. A deep-toned arched wooden door, paired with green marble steps and creamy limestone walls, creates a sense of arrival. Two vintage wall sconces with hand-stitched shades echo the artisanal spirit of the brand; natural stone cladding reveals subtle textures that shift as sunlight moves through the day.
Inside, just nine seats are intentionally arranged to preserve breathing space, allowing each guest to fully immerse in the atmosphere. A warm coffee-brown palette anchors the space, layered with natural rattan, walnut wood, matte steel, and fine ceramic accents—creating warmth without heaviness. Bold, colorful artworks on the walls strike a dialogue with the understated furniture, balancing elegance with a playful edge.
The coffee bar, wrapped in a honey-toned finish, mirrors the warmth of the desserts. Slim floating shelves keep storage light, displaying coffee cups and glassware like curated objects. A living plant wall brings a sense of freshness, while a hand-painted screen subtly defines space and adds an artistic layer.
In the dessert display, CU’s signature Dacquoise and Canelé sit like curated treasures—each flavor with its own personality: the grounded richness of hazelnut cocoa, the timeless appeal of the signature blend, the playful twist of scallion cream cheese. The space’s textures and colors echo these flavors, each telling its own quiet story.
From its beginnings as an online dessert studio, CU Dessert evolved over four years to open its first physical store in 2024. More than a business milestone, this was an experiment in embedding the craftsmanship of fine desserts into architecture, materials, and atmosphere—so that both palate and sight are tenderly indulged.
